Classic vs Purist
When you start a new game you choose how you want to search. The stack and the needle are the same in both modes; what changes is everything you have to help you.

Classic
The full game. Dig, sell what you find, and reinvest in bigger tools, a better detector and machines that dig for you. Each stack gets faster than the last because everything you buy carries over. This is the mode to pick first.
Purist
No upgrades. No detector. No machines. Just your gloves, the stack and one needle. You can still sell what you find, but there's nothing to spend it on. It's a slow, patient hunt that relies on good tunnelling and sharp eyes. The needle still sparkles once it's uncovered, and that is your only signal.
